Day 2 of Advent: Discovering East Van’s Breweries – A Two-Parter Adventure!

Welcome to Day 2 of The Drink Guy’s Advent Calendar! After kicking things off with the festive delight of Danish Juløl, we’re diving into a local treasure trove: the vibrant craft breweries of East Vancouver—or, as the locals lovingly call it, Yeast Van. This area is a haven for beer enthusiasts, offering an eclectic mix of breweries brimming with character, flavour, and a warm holiday buzz. These spots are as fun and lively as the people who frequent them. Whether it’s a quick pint or a full evening of exploration, the East Van brewery scene is a must for this time of...

Juløl: A Festive Sip of Danish Tradition

If you’re of Danish descent like I am, you may know Juløl—that dark, sweet, candy-like lager that feels like Christmas in a glass. Growing up with it, this seasonal brew became a cherished part of my holiday traditions. No Ordinary Beer Juløl is no ordinary beer. Flavoured with licorice, black currant, Munchener, and caramel malts, it’s a bottom-fermented wiener beer with a beautifully layered profile. But what does “bottom fermented” mean?  Simply put, it’s a slower fermentation process where yeast settles at the bottom of the liquid, occurring at a cooler...

Go Big or Go Home, A Cocktail for the Eager Tourist

Go big or go home seems to be the edict for a boozy cocktail for eager budget minded tourists. We know travel can get costly, that’s no secret, but libations that give you your money’s worth certainly put a smile on a holiday traveller’s face.   The technique of “free pour” for a tall delicious drink, doesn’t happen all that often. At least not in the northern climates, but when it does? The shock and amazement of watching that never-ending alcohol stream quickly turns into desire and want. Maybe even a need? Sitting across from a bartender in the theatrical throws...

Turbulence Ahead? To Fly and Drink

Most think of the glory days of airline travel having long gone. However, there are those of us that still try to adhere to the past and those “days gone by”. I’m one of them if you haven’t already figured that out.

Negroni, The Italian Influenced Refreshing Aperitif

Negroni is a cocktail, made of equal parts gin, usually sweet vermouth, and Campari. Campari being the key ingredient with its distinct, almost medicinal flavour, that is mellowed, but strengthened with the addition of the other two ingredients. Not a weakened flavour by any means. Think of it as 1/3, plus 1/3, plus 1/3, to make that whole, and you’ll never go wrong. My first memories of Campari was of my Danish cousin drinking it mixed with soda water in Copenhagen to settle her stomach and aid in her digestion. Yes, Campari is considered a stomach bitter, a...

Sam’s Straws Biodegrable Wheat Straws

Sam’s Straws, is an all-Natural and Disposable, Eco-friendly Drinking Accessory, Premium Beverage Straws Set for Parties, BBQ’s and Bar Use. In my journeys around the world, both in person and online, I’m always doing so with the intention of looking for new things to review and bring to the masses. Ok, so maybe it’s not my intention, but just something I love to do, especially if it’s something worth letting folks in on. It just so happens that I quite literally stumbled upon a link to Sam Fricker, an Australian Olympic Diver, who competed in the Japan Olympic Games 2021....

The Liberty Distillery

The Liberty Distillery is an artisan style local Vancouver award winning distillery that boasts handcrafted, traditional spirits. I was finally able to visit their old world, blended with new world, sampling show room in the heart of Granville Island, local tourist destination over this past holiday season. Glad I did! Granville Island is situated under the Granville Street Bridge, some would say centrally located, some not. I find it easily accessible on foot, transportation, or by car. Parking however is a challenge in this rather busy spot, so I would suggest leaving the car at...

Something To Make You Laugh…..

A woman got married and had thirteen children, then her husband died. She married again and had seven more children. Again her husband died. She remarried and this time had five more children. She finally died after having twenty five children. Standing before her coffin, the preacher prayed for her. He thanked the Lord for this very loving woman and said, "Lord, they're finally together." One mourner leaned over and quietly asked her friend, "Do you think he means her first, second, or third husband?" The friend replied, "I think he means her...

World Cup Soccer……

Spain Wins the World Cup!!!!!!!!! The World Cup is over and Spain sits on top of the world, literally. They have even surpassed Brazil as the number one team on the planet, doing so before the final game even started. Congratulations go out to the soccer team from Spain, they definitely were the better team in defeating the Netherlands, 1-0 in extra time.  I must say, being one of the pre-tournament favorites and the reigning European Champions, it was surprising to see how slowly they started this World Cup Tournament. While Germany and the Netherlands came out flying, ranking 1 and...

Eclipse Needs The Drink Guy!

Eclipse is out today, so in honor of the third installment of the Twilight series, and because Lynn is crazy addicted to it all, the cheesiest Vampire joke I could find seemed appropriate. She'll love it anyway, especially the pictures. I don't get it, but whatever. It was her birthday this week, so Happy Birthday Lynn. The Cullen Brothers Go To A Bar Three vampire brothers walk into a bar and sit down at a table. The waitress comes over and asks the first vampire, Jasper, what he would like. He responds, "I would like some blood." The waitress turns to the...

Its Monday Again…..

Two guys went out into the woods to do a little duck hunting, and while one kept close watch, the other drank a dozen beers. After considerable time passed, a solitary mallard flew over. The sober guy took aim but missed. "Quick!" he shouted to his drunken buddy. "Try and hit that duck!" The inebriated guy waved his shotgun in the general direction of the sky, pulled the trigger and damned if he didn't hit the duck. "That's incredible!" exclaimed the sober guy. "Not really," said the drunk guy. "When there's a whole fuckin' flock, you can't hardly miss!" One More.... Two...

Impaired Judgement

Not Sure What To Think Auckland, New Zealand-A drunk driver trapped after overturning his car cracked open another can of beer while he waited for emergency crews to rescue him, a New Zealand court was told. Defense lawyer Peter Young said that when Paul Sneddon, 47, found he could not open the doors, "he had nothing else to do at that point, so he had another beer." Do I laugh Or Congratulate Him.

Monday Funnies…..

Better Late Then Never A girl says to her boyfriend, "I read a study that said 90 percent of all men masturbate in the shower every morning and the other 10 percent sing." "Really?" says the boyfriend. "Yes, and do you know what song they sing?" asks the girlfriend. "No." replies the boyfriend. "I didn't think so." Another Stupid Drunk This guy at a restaurant was intoxicated and annoying customers. The manager of the restaurant called the authorities and when the police came, they didn't arrest him but insisted that he call someone for a ride home, which he did. But when he...

Eclipse!

Eclipse, Vampires, Twilight Theme Party AND a Drink Guy Signature Cocktail! Eclipse! Vampires, werewolves, romance and adventure! The Drink Guy team is counting down! Well, Lynn is counting down. Glenn is creating a signature cocktail for the occasion, likely so he can get through it all and not smack her. Hey! Lynn here!! Twilight rocks!! OK, yes, I am a fan...OK, I am addicted. And your point is? Just because I spent an hour using four different programs to create...this!! How cool is that!?!? Yah, OK, if any of you know of a Twilight Addiction Support Group, send me the...

Vancouver Breweries!

Vancouver, Breweries, and Beer! Vancouver Breweries...yes, despite the fact that I (Lynn) am not a beer drinker, reading about the specialty microbreweries in Western Canada and the process used, even my interest was peaked! (Especially when I found out there is such a thing as Chocolate Beer!) Of course, 5 days in Vancouver was not nearly enough, and packing in sight-seeing, wineries and time enjoying the Drink Guy's wonderful family out there, left us choosing one brewery to tour, for this trip anyway! Our choice was Granville Island Brewing , a local establishment that advertises...

A Life Coach Question, Living With Traditional Values, Good Or Bad?

Dear Life Coach Lynn, I want to know what you and your fans think about a woman taking care of her man. I believe I look after mine, cooking and cleaning, physical and emotional, as best I can. However, I am often "attacked" by others for my old fashioned attitude and living in the 1950's. What's wrong with looking after your man? I need a life coach! :-) Just call me June Cleaver ! Dear "June" , Thank you for your question! I'm sure our wonderful fans will have some thoughts, and of course I am happy to share mine with you! First of all, in my opinion, if you and your...

FIFA WORLD CUP……

The World Cup, Everyone is Watching The World Cup of Soccer, or as we real people like to call it "FOOTBALL," is once again upon us. This month long sporting event, played every four years, is easily the most watched, most exciting and biggest sporting event to be displayed on the world stage. The world cup is an event unlike any other sporting event. Football, or soccer is the most popular sport on the planet. What I mean by this is simple; whereas baseball is America's pastime, it's not too popular the world over. There are other worldwide event's for any number of sports, but...

Monday Again… Laff it Up Fuzz Ball

I Know The Feeling A guy was sitting at a table in his favorite restaurant one evening when he spotted a beautiful woman across the room eating by herself. He called the waiter over and asked for their most expensive bottle of wine to be sent over to the woman. The waiter delivered the wine saying it was from the gentleman over there. She looked at it and sent a note saying, "For me to accept this, you need to have a Mercedes in your garage, $ 1 Million in the bank and seven inches in your pants." After reading the note, the man replied with his own note, saying, "As it happens, I have...

R2-D2 Might Have A Drinking Problem

And Does This Mean C3PO Will Be A Bottle Of  Goldschläger?

Confused But Willing to Learn

Dear Life Coach Lynn In my relationship I am having trouble dealing with my girlfriend when she is stressed. Our relationship is great, and we really enjoy each other when things are good, but I know that if we can't work through it when things are tough than we will have difficulty in the long haul. I see couples here and there that have a great relationship no matter what they are going through, and I want that kind of life with someone, a wife who is a best friend too. If she has stress at work, or stress with her family, or just hormones (I know, as a guy I'm supposed to ignore...

Hump Day AGAIN?!?

And Apparently My Bad Day Could Get Worse!

Funny For Memorial Day Monday!

After the annual Memorial Day office picnic blow out, John woke up with a pounding headache and unable to recall the events of the preceding evening. After a trip to the bathroom he was able to make his way downstairs, where his wife put some coffee in front of him. "Louise," he moaned, "tell me what went on last night. Was it as bad as I think?" "Even worse," she assured him in her most scornful one. "You made a complete ass of yourself, succeeded in antagonizing the entire board of directors, and insulted the chairman of the company to his face." "He's an arrogant,...

Road Trip…Vancouver’s Way

A Road Trip In Style A Road Trip involves hopping in a car and heading in any direction that tickles your fancy. Well we did one better, hopped in a plane, headed to Vancouver, and then got in a killer Volvo C70 convertible for our road trip. The sites we saw, the things we did, and of course, the alcohol we drank. Wouldn't be a Drink Guy road trip without booze. The first night involved a juicy steak dinner, cooked to perfection by our host for the weekend, Miss Velvet Steele. This was accompanied by a nice Shiraz, recommended by one of our fans, but only able to purchase in Vancouver....

Suicide And Protecting Our Kids

Dear Life Coach Lynn, Suicide, and this article on it, was in the news recently, and has raised a lot of conversations in our social group of parents. What do you think? "An 8 year-old-boy in Texas tried to commit suicide after his teacher did nothing about the bad bullying he faced every day. The school’s response: have him sign a ‘no suicide’ agreement. Apparently this is standard procedure in this particular school district. Any student who tries to harm him/herself has to sign it. This kid, however, is in second-grade and is dyslexic. Would you ask your child to sign a...

It’s Monday Baby….

The Funnies The Reverends Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, while visiting a grade school class, found themselves in the middle of a discussion related to words and their meaning. The teacher asked both men if they would like to lead the discussion of the word "tragedy." Reverend Jackson asks the class for an example of a "tragedy." One little boy stood up and offered, "If my best friend who lives on a farm is playing in the field and a runaway tractor comes along and, runs over him and kills him dead, that would be a tragedy." "No," says the Rev. Jesse Jackson, "That would be an...

What A Lady Drinks….And More?

A Lady Drinks What? A lady drinks, generally, something a little more sophisticated or classy, compared to what a guy drinks. It's more about style when it comes to what ladies drink. With wine being the drink of choice here, red or white. There is no favoritism when it comes to wine. All a matter of preference. And unless they know you well, a lady drinks white wine as it doesn't stain the teeth or ruin your cloths if it happens to spill. A ladies drink also tends to be a little more colorful and flavorful. Cocktails and martinis are a close second to the wine. Having more alcohol...

It’s Monday People…

Funnies Mildred, the church gossip and self appointed monitor of the town morals, kept putting her nose in other people's business, but the church flock feared her enough to keep silent. She made a mistake when she accused Mad Dog, a new church member, of being a woman chaser and alcoholic after she saw his old Harley parked in front of the town's only bar. She told Mad Dog, and others, that seeing it there only proves what he is doing. Mad Dog, a man of few words, stared at her , then turned and walked away. He didn't defend, or deny. Later that night, Mad Dog quietly parked his...

All in the Name of Love Alcohol Does Aid Sex: Australian researchers found that a good, stiff drink actually improves a man's prowess in the bedroom. According to the study, men who consumed up to twenty drinks a week spread over five days had the fewest sexual problems. Those who drank on the weekends only, still had an advantage over men who drank only one day a week or drank none at all. The worst performing group was made up of former heavy drinkers that had stopped drinking altogether. See ladies, we do it for you! Here's A Visual A drunk man pulled his pants down and...

Vancouver Nightlife!

Vancouver Nightlife, Hitting the Town! Vancouver! One of Canada's premier cities, filled with culture, beauty and fun! And apparently, nightlife! According to popular opinion, Vancouver ranks third, after Toronto and Montreal, in the top Canadian cities for the club scene. Now, I know for some people around the world, the phrase "Canadian Club Scene" seems almost an oxymoron. Yet, contrary to the sometimes frozen hick image the world has, Canadians know how to have a great time, and enjoy some of the most amazing nightlife outside of Las Vegas and Miami! Sporting a culturally...

Mother’s Day Celebrations Around the World

Mother's Day celebrations can trace roots all the way back to the ancient Greeks and ancient Romans, and although the majority of countries celebrate this holiday on the second Sunday in May, there are celebrations for Mom's from early February until early December...I guess Mom's don't like January! The ancient Greeks celebrated Cybele, AKA "Earth Mother", whose priestesses apparently led her people to celebrate with wild music, drumming, dancing, and drinking...sounds a little more exciting than our North American celebrations! In Africa there are apparently many festivals and events...

Girls Night Out!

Girls Night Out! Heading out for drinks or dinner, Girls Night Out is a phrase that can strike fear into the hearts of men and smiles on the faces of women! Of course, this phrase can mean many things to many people. A girls night out can be as innocuous as a book club meeting at a girlfriends place, or as crazy as a bachelorette party at a wild club. Speaking only for myself, they tend to lean much more to the first event than the second. Regardless of the event, if I am heading out with one or more girlfriends for some time together, I have a smile on my face! The venue...

What a Guy Drinks…..

Guy Drinks A guy drinks what ever he feels like. Beer, shots, martinis, wine, pretty much whatever mood hits him. Let's be honest about this, most of us guys aren't overly "cultured" when it comes to a drink passing our lips. I generally only see a handful of men order wine with a meal and most times it's the wrong wine with their meal of choice. I personally hate red wine, so whether it's steak, chicken or  seafood, I'm having a glass of white if I really want wine. If going out to the pub a guy drinks an assortment of beer, usually in pitchers, and depending on how many guests are...

Monday Funnies for the Ladies

The other night, Sandra was invited out for a night with the girls. She told her husband that she would be home by midnight. Well, the hours passed and the margaritas went down way too easily. Around 3 am, a bit loaded she headed for home. Just as she got in the door, the cuckoo clock in the hallway started up and cuckooed three times. Quickly realizing her husband would probably wake up she cuckooed another nine times. She was really proud of herself for coming up with such a quick-witted solution in order to escape a possible conflict with him. Even though totally smashed she...

Alcohol, Abstaining and Other Attitudes!

Alcohol, Abstaining and Other Attitudes! Internet Fact or Fiction is back, this time talking about attitudes about abstaining and health. In our first two segments, "Alcohol Fact or Fiction on the Internet; Is the Truth Really Out There?" and "More "Alcohol, Fact, Fiction or Fun" we established that not everything we find online is easily identified as fact or fiction. At times, the fun of the information is enough to give it value. On this topic however, I am more interested in what is fact and what is fiction. That doesn't make it an easier to find the truth though! So...

More “Alcohol, Fact, Fiction or Fun” For You!

Alcohol Fact or Fiction? Well, we have established in "Alcohol Fact or Fiction on the Internet; Is the Truth Really Out There?" that wading through the information online can present a challenge when seeking the truth. We have also established that, sometimes, it just doesn't matter! In my time online I am consistently coming across fun and interesting trivia, and wanting to share it with the awesome Drink Guy fans. If I cannot verify it, does it make it any less interesting to read, or too talk about over coffee, at the water cooler, or maybe at the bar over an after work beer or...

Alcohol Fact or Fiction on the Internet; Is the Truth Really Out There?

Alcohol Fact or Fiction? The internet is an interesting place to play, and I play there often. These days so much of my time is consumed by the online world, through social medias, The Drink Guy site, and endless Google searches for materials, images, funnies to share, and all that jazz! We live in the information age, and there is no shortage of information on the internet! The challenge we face is how to discern fact from fiction, reality from fantasy, and truth from hoax. Of course, with some information it matters, but in my humble opinion, with some it doesn't! In...

Frustrated Hockey Fans Lash Out!

It’s Monday Again

How the Fight Started.... A man and woman were were asleep like two innocent babies. Suddenly, at 3 o'clock in the morning, a loud noise came from outside. The woman, sort of bewildered, jumped up from the bed and yelled at the man, "Holy crap, that must be my husband!" The man quickly jumped out of bed, and scared and naked jumped out the window. He smashed on the ground, ran through a thorn bush and then started to run as fast as he could to his car. A few minutes later he returned, went up to the bedroom and screamed at the woman, "I am your husband!" The woman yelled back,...

Stressed and looking for relationship advice, dealing with power struggles and kids activities, a tough question from a great Drink Guy fan! Dear Life Coach, I have recently found myself frustrated dealing with a situation that I don't know how to handle.  I am a parent who bends over backwards for my young children. St. George’s Day…

The Patron Saint St. George gives us a reason for celebration around the world, and that's just what we do.  His memorial is celebrated on the 23 of April, and he is regarded as one of the most prominent military saints. St. George was, according to tradition, a Roman soldier and priest in the Guard of Diocletian (an anti- Christian Roman Emperor), who died a martyr's death in 303 A.D. The earliest literacy reference to St. George comes from Eusebius of Caesarea who, in 322 A.D., writes of a noble- born soldier of high rank in the Roman army, being thrown into prison for...

Beer The Choice For Celebration….And Food?

Beer, the number one alcoholic choice for celebration around the world.  Whether it's St. Patrick's Day, Earth Day or St. George's Day, which we will discuss this week, this is the best beverage to accompany those famous words,  "Cheers" . Beer is the world's oldest and most widely consumed alcoholic beverage and the third most popular drink overall after water and tea.  But what else is there to know about this tasty beverage.  Well pay attention and lets find out. A lager is crisp and refreshing with a smooth finish from longer aging.  They are the world's most popular beer and...

Earth Day 2010

Earth Day 2010 is almost upon us and The Drink Guy is there! This is the 40th anniversary of the first celebration, held in the USA in 1970. The objective of that first Earth Day event was to "raise public awareness of environmental problems and their potential solutions." Interestingly enough, the idea for how to promote a day focusing on environmental concerns came from anti-Vietnam demonstrations! At the time, these demonstrations were happening all over the US, and the attention they were gathering was exactly what U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson, the originator of Earth Day, was...

4/20:The Things I Learn From The Drink Guy! Holiday's, an obvious topic for writing about on The Drink Guy, that's where it all started. While chatting with one of our Drink Guy fans from the UK, she made a fabulous suggestion. Why not write about holiday's from all over the world, popular and obscure? Well this just made sense, so I sat down tonight to do some research on holiday's around the world. Sigh, why do I always think these things are going to go WAY more smoothly than they do!?!? With trusty laptop, I begin my search. "Google that s**t" is one of my favorite mantras, so I...

Monday Morning Funnies…. And Other Stuff

A guy was tending bar at a posh Texas hotel when two snooty women approached. "So where y'all from?" he asked. One replied angrily, "We are from New York where people do not end their sentences with prepositions.' "Oh," he said "So where y'all from, Bitch?" Bad words-and worse timing If you're driving drunk in a stolen car, it might not be a good idea to yell obscenities at a passing cop. But police in Newfoundland and Labrador say a 47-year-old Deer Lake man was pulled over on the shoulder of the road Thursday when he leaned his head out of the window to hurl insults at the...

Frustrated With Her Mom!

Parents Interfering, How To Cope! Looking for advice, this question came in via our Drink Guy Face Book fan page! Dear Lynn, I have been dating my girlfriend for just over a year. We are at the same university, and met there. We live in different cities, and both have gone  home for the summer. Being apart  is tough enough, but her Mother is making it worse. Just in Case We Were Confused!

Facebook, Twitter, Teachers, Coaches and Students?

Facebook, Twitter! Facebook profiles, Twitter streams, social media that allow a student to connect with a teacher or a coach, good idea or bad? The question posed to the Bartender and the Life Coach in Episode 11 does not have a simple answer in our opinion. As an adult in a position of influence, as a teacher or perhaps a coach, means that we carry a certain responsibility level to our students. If we allow those students to connect with us through social media, are we helping or hindering the positive impact we are attempting to have? Certain social medias, such as Twitter,...

Glee!! Yes I Said It, Glee!!!

Glee Is Back!! Glee!! Love it, hate it, have no idea what it is? Well, in North America you would have to never watch TV and live under a rock to not know what this television phenomenon is!  However, my visitors from the UK did not know what it was about, so for those of you that don't know, let's talk "Glee", the newest sensation on TV. And of course, a great excuse for a theme party! Quite simply it is a musical/comedy/drama, set around a high school glee club. Monday’s Joke of the Day

A Sunday school teacher asked her class the question: "When you die and go to Heaven, which part of your body goes first?"  Suzie raised her hand and said, "I think your hands, because when you pray, you hold your hands together in front of you and God just takes your hands first." "What a wonderful answer!" The teacher said. Now little Johnny raised his hand and said, "Teacher I think it's your legs." The teacher looked at him warily.  "Now Johnny, why do you think it would be your legs?" Little Johnny said, "Well, I walked into Mommy and Daddy's bedroom the other night,...

Jesse James, Sandra Bullock, and Cheating Part Two!!!

Jesse James and Sandra Bullock are still the Hollywood buzz as we continue our great Drink Guy fans discussion in Episode 10 of TDG TV!  This time with the help of a male fan we discuss whether Sandra has any fault in the affairs, and why did they not learn from Tiger Woods? As the story goes Sandra Bullock apparently appears completely oblivious as her famous husband Jesse James, has his way with anyone and everyone who walks through the front door, apparently following the example of Tiger Woods! Is it necessarily Sandra's fault for being away working all the time, while Jesse's...

New Stuff at The Drink Guy!!!

Finally fully recovered from the party Wednesday night with The Drink Guy fans and a full day of tourist travel with great friends from the UK, so it's time to get back at it!  First things first...even after keeping us all entertained with his brilliant online bartending, Glenn has managed to add a host of new and fabulous recipes for all of us to enjoy, so...check them out and enjoy!!! We have the Italian Sunrise, the Strawberry Blonde with Green Eyes, the Freshly Imported, the Separatist, the West Coast Wet One and the Buffalo Bill! And, as bartenders are apt to do, he even...

Party Night at The Drink Guy!

There was a party online tonight with some of the awesome Drink Guy fans...what a total blast! It started so simply, with a suggestion that a "Shot Shared Around the World" by some of the FaceBook Drink Guy fans would be fun. When the questions began to come in about what shot could be created with the ingredients that people had available, our bartender Glenn came to the rescue, and created a fun and fabulous party on the fan page! The shot, a "6/49" ...is a "random" shot named after the Canadian lottery, and the process is simple, fun, and the results are interesting!! To...

Always appreciative of intelligent reporting. Hmmm...FAIL! But seriously, it`s good to know that those 25 year old teenagers are getting pregnant less these days!

Fun Stuff from the Bar!!

This comes from one of our great Drink Guy fans!! Why I was fired... For the last company picnic management decided that due to liability issues we could have alcohol, but only 1 drink per person. I was fired for ordering the cups. Thanks to Julie for Tuesday's laugh!

What’s New on The Drink Guy!

Check out our next segment in the article series "Building Your Perfect Home Bar". The Perfect Home Bar: Step One, Location! Also enjoy some new drink recipes from Glenn, like the Irish Car Bomb, Prairie Fire, Bloody Ceasar, B52, and The Stinger!

Jokes at the Bar

Since we've been talking about infidelity, here's one for ya. A woman is in bed with her lover when she hears her husband opening the front door.  "Hurry,"  she says, "Stand in the corner." While he stands in the corner she rubs baby oil on him and dusts him all over with talcum powder.  "Pretend you're a statue!" she tells him.  "What's this?" the husband asks as he walks in the bedroom. "Oh that's a statue I bought," the wife replies. "The Andersons have one and I liked it so much I got one for us too." Around 2 a.m. the husband gets up, goes to the kitchen and returns with...

The Perfect Home Bar…

It always amazes me how much the presence of a home bar draws people. Despite the fact that I spend my days working behind one, when I arrive at someone's home for a social event, I am always pleasantly surprised if they have a home bar set up, and immediately feel the need to check it out. As I make my way over for a much needed drink, I reflect on what my ideal home bar set up would be.  A bar is always the center piece of any party or get together, as this is where the masses will gather for conversation and the all important, “grab a drink”. Whether simple or complex, a bar...

The Pickup Line…..Does it Really Work?

The Pickup line, I've heard them all.  Being a bartender definitely has its privileges.  As I've stated earlier we get to see and hear everything. One such observation, albiet extremely humorous as time passes and more alcohol is consumed, is the mating ritual of the homosapien. The mating ritual generally begins immediately upon entry into the bar.  First off we all need to check out the scene. Don't kid yourself we all do it, guys, girls, bartenders, servers, busboys, doorman, the DJ etc.  Anyone drinking, working or sometimes both, does it. We need to see who's available,...

With spring in the air and the beautiful weather forecast for this weekend, many people's thoughts turn to outdoor pursuits, such as golf. Just make sure you know the rules, breaking them could create a much higher penalty than you are prepared to pay!!

The Sports Fan:How Rowdy is too Rowdy?

A great question that came in via one of our awesome Drink Guy Fan Page fans! "When watching sports at home, as opposed to the "rowdy" nature of a stadium, sports fans may have the smallest amount of shared company but also the greatest degree of freedom. This is sometimes where the most intense cheering or jeering will take place among particularly devoted sports fans...depending on the company they keep for such an event. In the case of particularly frustrating and disappointing moments in sport for such a fan, is it appropriate for such extreme reactions as punching a hole in the wall...

Monday Morning Laugh...Why Men Should Not Write Advice Columns! It just seemed an appropriate funny to share given the topic of Episode 9 of The Drink Guy TV and the discussions surrounding Sandra Bullock, Jesse James, and even Tiger Woods! Great advice John!

Sandra Bullock, Jesse James and Cheating: the Bartender, the Life Coach and the Fans Weigh In

Sandra Bullock and Jesse James are all the buzz, and in Episode 9 of The Drink Guy TV, the Bartender and the Life Coach enlist the assistance of some Drink Guy fans to discuss this ongoing Hollywood story. As most of you know, the recent story that has taken Hollywood by storm is the situation between Sandra Bullock, Jesse James, and marriage infidelity. The alleged affair took place between Jesse James and Michelle McGee, although it seems that more mistresses are coming out of the woodwork. Following a well deserved Oscar win on the part of Sandra Bullock, and a speech that brought...

Bartender Tips about Bar Etiquette….Part One

As a bartender I've seen my fair share of people, and if someone wants great service, they need to know what Bar Etiquette is all about.  It amazes me how rude some people can be, or how bent out of shape they get if you're not "on top of them'.  There are other people here, not just you. By definition etiquette means conventional requirements as to social behavior; proprieties of conduct as established in any class or community or for any occasion. Etiquette has to do with good manners. It's not so much our own good manners, but making other people feel comfortable by the way we...

The Bartender and The Life Coach talk alcohol and relationships… Episode 8:TDG TV

The Bartender and the Life Coach are back, this time dealing with the question of how to handle the issue of alcohol within a relationship. Not the standard situation of  alcohol abuse, but rather the query of how to deal with a situation where one partner has emotional issues tied to alcohol abuse from childhood, and makes demands on a partner because of this. In this Episode of The Drink Guy TV, the Bartender and the Life Coach have been asked by a young man who wants to enjoy a successful relationship but is struggling with the demands of his significant other. The young man in...

Hangover Remedies…when the fun is over!

An age old quest...the ideal hangover remedy. Does it exist? What works, what doesn't? Thanks to some of our awesome Drink Guy fans, we have been given some interesting suggestions for curing the result of your Saturday night fun...that Sunday morning hangover. There are certainly some common themes, and some unusual ones.It seems a favorite way to "cure" a hangover involves food. From Tammy, Diana, Mark F, Alison, Patti B, and Traci the leading food suggestion involves "greasy spoon" or "junk" food...and specifically from Julie and Chris and Joanne, bacon must be included in the...

Flaming Drinks add Effect….

Flaming drinks definitely pleases all due to its showmanship.  All alcohol's burn, usually a bright blue flame, however some better than others.  The higher the percentage or proof the better it lights.  Most cream based liqueurs, not so much so.  So don't waste your time on them. This is all about the show, and done right will have anybody eating out of your hands.  Some quick notes, make sure to extinguish the flame before you drink, it will burn all the way down.  Alcohol burns hot so don't use a cold glass, a sudden change in temperature could crack/ shatter the glass and ruin...

Tequila and Margaritaville…..

Before we get to some recipes, lets discuss the margarita.  This drink consists mainly of tequila, any orange flavor liqueur, such as triple sec, Cointreau or Grand Marnier, the juice of one lime or sweet and sour lime bar mix, ice and salt.  This is the basic margarita, remove anything and you might as well call it something else. Like the martini, there have become endless variations to the margarita.  Such as adding new flavors like strawberry, raspberry, mango or peach.  On the rocks or crushed ice, a slushy, using a blender.  Substituting salt for a sugar rim, for all you wimps,...

Travel the World with the Bartender…

As stated earlier, being a bartender has allowed me to travel the world and drink martini's on countless beaches .  I think it appropriate to share one of those experiences with everyone. Most recently my travels took me to Southeast Asia, a beautiful place called Phaic Tan . Hot, humid and covered in lush vegetation it's little wonder that Phaic Tan is often described as being 'the armpit of Southeast Asia'. Regular flights land at Phlat Chat airport or, if winds are strong, in a rice paddy within several kilometers of it.  With its crowed, chaotic streets and heavy traffic the best...

St Patricks Day, Cheers to ALL Green Drinks

Since this is about being GREEN, here are some green drinks for the ladies, and some men.  Since not everyone likes green beer, some drinks with a little more flavor have been added to please everyone's pallet.  Definitely some party favorites, especially the Jell-o.   Jamaican Green Sunrise 1 oz white rum orange juice 1/2 oz blue curacao liqueur 1/2 oz pineapple vodka Start with the ice cubes. Pour rum and orange juice into cocktail glass. Carefully add blue curacao, making sure it falls to the bottom. Layer pineapple vodka on top. Irish Jell-o...

St Patrick’s Day…Cheers to Green Beers!

St Patrick's Day in North America brings to mind parades, shamrocks, and for many of us a rowdy night at the pub drinking green beer. However, you may be surprised to learn that in Ireland St Patrick's Day is a religious holiday...as the Patron Saint of Ireland,  St Patrick is credited for bringing Christianity into Ireland...and he wasn't even Irish! So how best to enjoy the ultimate "Green" holiday? It's all about throwing yourself into the celebration, embracing the fun, and dragging your friends with you! Whether you go out, or stay in, there are "must do's" to truly participate in...

The Bartender and The Life Coach are back! Episode 7:TDG TV

The Bartender and the Life Coach are back, this time dealing with the question of how to handle the changing dynamics of a long term friendship. Once again with our special guest Amber, we now delve into a personal situation she is dealing with...a friendship relationship that has changed in a way that Amber is not sure how to deal with. Our entire lives revolve around the relationships that we create with the people around us, from family and friendships to casual acquaintances and vocational (especially as a bartender and a life coach!) connections. How we "manage" these relationships...

Confused about my friend…Life Coach please help!

As the Life Coach, I am noticing a pattern...the consensus from our Drink Guy team is that, after watching Episode 7 of  TDG TV, an expanded version of my thoughts for Amber would be appreciated. A friendship relationship question is something we have all dealt with at some point, and it deserves some attention. It is difficult, between the length of the episode and sharing the stage with the Bartender, to really give a thorough answer...and you are probably figuring out that I like to be thorough! The question posed to us was simple...in a long term friendship relationship, when the...

Drinking Games…..

Since our Facebook Fan Page has a Drinking Game listed for the Oscars, I figured I better add a few to peak everyone's interest.  There are literally thousands of drinking games to be played, but these three will help you get drunk, get to know your friends or possibly get you a free drink from the bartender.  You also won't need any cards, which usually get wet or stuck together, or bottles or any other object that could be hurled at the loser/winner (however you choose to look at it). Sorry, you will need some quarters for one game. Let's start with Fuzzy Duck. I think a few know this...

Cyberstalking…Did I Cross that Line?

Dear Drink Guy... Cyberstalking So I was at my significant other's place the other day, and needed to use the computer. My SO told me to go ahead, so I did. When I sat down, I realized that they had a "social" site open that they had a subscription to, a site designed for singles. I knew I should just close it up, but instead I started to poke around. I found "chats" with other people that had started before we were dating, but had continued after we started seeing each other. (A couple months now) I was not happy, but also realized that I should not have been poking around. Now I don't...

Cyberstalking, a question for The Bartender and The Life Coach. Episode 6:TDG TV

The bartender and the life coach deal with the question of cyberstalking! This question arrived via email, and brings up many issues, both moral, ethical and legal...we do believe it warrants a follow up post with a more in depth answer, but the bartender and the life coach kick off the conversation in Episode 6 of  TDG TV. Cyberstalking is certainly a concept that goes hand in hand with technology, and a concept that has become quite a concern. There are many levels to consider, from the simplicity of a significant other accidently finding your email open and reading a message or two,...

Some Cocktails for the Oscar’s….

Now since the Oscar's can be a theme party, choice of drinks will vary according to each theme.  Since I will assume a Black Tie Affair, we will go with some martini's. Dirty Martini 2 oz Gin ¼ oz Dry Vermouth 1/8 oz olive brine 3 green olives (add or remove olives to your taste) small wedge of lemon (optional) Directions Into a cocktail shaker, pour the Gin, Dry Vermouth and olive brine. Add ice. Shake well. Rub the rim of the martini glass with the wedge of lemon. Strain and pour contents of cocktail shaker into a martini glass. Drop the olives into the martini...

The Bartender and The Life Coach, The Olympics and Hockey! Episode 5:TDG TV

The 2010 Winter Olympic Games wrapped up last night in Vancouver amidst much pomp and circumstance. The excitement and enthusiasm was high, but these Olympic games were not without their controversy. A question was posed to our Bartender and to our Life Coach via our Facebook Fan Page, and a request for a "signature Glenn cocktail" to mark the occasion...thus Episode 5 was born! The host country of Canada did "own the podium" in regards to record breaking Olympic Gold medal achievement, and so the signature cocktail Twenty Ten Gold was born. Our guest on the episode, Amber, truly...

Oh Canada…. Gold Baby….

Just wanted to congratulate the Canadian men's hockey team for their GOLD MEDAL performance this afternoon against our arch rivals from the U.S.  This had to be one of the best hockey games I have ever seen.  Although I was working a full bar at the time, and catching the game was tricky, I did manage to see the tying goal with mere seconds remaining.  But the best was watching, the guy everyone said needed to produce, Sid the Kid scoring the winning goal in overtime. I don't want to take anything away from the Canadian women's hockey team, cause let's be real here, they were...

Twenty Ten Gold….

This is for Lynn, and can be seen on episode 5 1 oz Goldschlagger 1 oz Vodka 1 oz Sourpuss Raspberry Build on the rocks in a highball, add a little grenadine and top with cranberry juice. You can hardly notice the alcohol, but to me anything with Goldschlagger tastes like cinnamon hearts. Enjoy, The Drink Guy Team

Olympic Hockey Gold:Is the Controversy Warranted?

Dear Drink Guy: Olympic Hockey Team Hi guys...What is your take on the Women's Olympic Hockey team...Celebrating with a Bottle of Canadian beer and some cigars after the win? Some controversy according to media reports. I guess there was a 18 year old participating...Isn't this the same girl who scored the 2 goals to win? There was only media and workers in the building...I say let them have fun...I know I celebrated with a wine...minus the cigars..But if I make it to Cuba..you never know!! Lynn's Two Cents... Thanks for the questions (which was posted on our FaceBook Fan Page)...

The Glitz, The Glamour, The Academy Awards!

The stage is set, the nominations are announced, and the outfits are ready...the countdown to the 82nd Academy Awards is on. The question is, what will you be doing to enjoy the event? Now we know, not everyone loves the Oscars, but it's a great excuse to throw a party, entertain your friends and have some fun! The fun thing about the Oscars is that the possibilities are limitless for throwing a theme party that will be remembered for decades to come! Choosing a theme that represents a decade, a category, a particular film, or just the celebration of the Academy Awards in general, allows...

The Bartender and The Life Coach…a New Question!! Episode 4:TDG TV

Moving on! Our Bartender Glenn serves up a nice glass of  white wine, a 20 Bees Unoaked Chardonnay,  to our Life Coach Lynn while discussing the next question from our "Don't Cry in Your Beer"  forum. The question posed to our bartender revolves around the issue of disclosure in the early stages of courtship...not dissimilar to an earlier question posted on "Don't Cry in Your Beer" titled "How Many is Too Many". This question deals more with the specifics of what level of disclosure should take place, and when. Our Bartender and our Life Coach once more enjoy the light-hearted, tongue...

The Bartender and The Life Coach Wrap it up…Episode 3:TDG TV

Talk about beating a dead horse...oh my gosh!! Seriously, this is the LAST time we talk about this topic! Fortunately Glenn the Bartender mixes Lynn the Life Coach a spectacular Bailey's Chocolate Cherry drink during Episode 3 which makes it much more entertaining for everyone...believe me! Adding to the entertainment is the follow up with moderator Ken and the grand reveal of the Air Canada "smelly guy" story! Our Bartender and our Life Coach are still fielding questions and comments on this topic, much to their complete surprise! Interesting the different paths that people's opinions are...

Dear Lonely but full of Anxiety…

Dear Drink Guy: My girlfriend of several years and I have recently broken up. I have found myself having great difficulty getting back into the social "swing" of things. So much so that the last several events that I have been invited to I have either not gone at all, even though I was bored and lonely, or I go only to leave before even going inside. Not being able to cope with these social situations sucks. The anxiety that I am experiencing is scary, but I don't want to live my life like this. Please help! Lonely but full of Anxiety Lynn's Two Cents... Thank you for your...

The Bartender and The Life Coach are back…Episode 2: TDG TV

Well it seems that we are not quite over the question first raised in our video advice column,  Episode 1 of TDG TV...thus we revisit the topic in Episode 2! The controversy between the bartender and the life coach rages on! Since the topic seems to create strong emotions in MANY people lol, we decided that a moderator was prudent! (Make sure to watch TDG TV Episode 1 first!) Since Glenn the bartender is too busy watching Harry Potter on the TV to help or monitor me, the life coach, it seems I can write whatever I want.  Although Glenn is just a bartender he is usually right as...

You’re All Right….

I allowed the last comment on our first video as it only seemed fair.  Now who will be the bigger man, it's up to you guys.  The point everyone seems to be missing is that there is no right or wrong.  You can be a gentleman all you want, the fact is some women don't need or want  our help.  In today's society more women will stand up for themselves.  Great I say. Most women I have dated, generally want me to walk away from a confrontation.  Yet as someone who is interfering, or sorry, engaging another for the sake of protecting a woman's honor, pride or rights, whatever you want to...

Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey Neat…..

Kentucky Bourbon Now I didn't plan on talking about alcohol tonight, especially not whiskey, but since the restaurant has been slow the last couple days, I really have no good stories to tell. I know Lynn answered an email yesterday about Gin Rickey and seemed to enjoy every minute. Please tell me we haven't create a monster, but hey, if we can get her to try other drinks all the better.  No more wine for you.  Just kidding, I love wine. Now generally I'm a Canadian Rye Whiskey drinker, and proud of it. I have tried others, the likes of, Scotch, Irish and Tennessee. However, I always...

Whiskey Drinks…oh so good…

Now some here have been made with Canadian, such as the Whiskey Sour or Manhattan.  I'm sure you can substitute but let's try with Bourbon.  I've also listed a few for the Honey Reserve from Evan Williams. The Stinger ½ oz. Honey Reserve ½ oz. Evan Williams Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey ½ oz. Energy Drink Splash of Grenadine Shake over ice and strain into shot glass Honey Splash 2 oz. Honey Reserve 3 oz. Cranberry Juice 1 oz. Lemon Lime Soda Shake and pour over ice Bourbon & Cream Martini 1 oz. Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage Bourbon 1 oz. coffee...

Gin Rickey

Well here we are in what I promise you will be a rare post...Lynn posting about drinks, drink recipes, and drink trivia. I am not confused about who on the drink guy team are the experts in these areas, and it is not me! I do however find myself in a strange place, so thus, this post! A few minutes ago a question was posed to the drink guy Glenn on our FaceBook fan page of "The Drink Guy". The question was simple...asking about the recipe for a Gin Rickey. Dale, (who is a friend so I'm hoping he does not mind me using his real name lol!) hails from the beautiful state of Kentucky. In...

Wow, WTF….

I'm stunned at the responses we received here and on facebook and twitter.  I would like to thank you all for your input, it was a delight to read all of them.  This first episode of  TDG TV was a hit and certainly calls for a follow up episode.  This seems to be an unresolved issue here at TDG, and has caused a very heated debate between The Drink Guy and The Life Coach, none of it caught on film.  I would like to take this time to invite all who commented to join us for round two of  What Should the Bartender Do. We will figure out a place and date, as I might need some help on...

Valentines Day….

So, I just want to know what everyone thinks is the perfect day for Valentines. I usually work, since it is one of the busiest days of the year in the restaurant/bar industry. I will say I never really understood why. It's like every cheap, lame or unromantic person in the world uses this day to make up for lost time. Or they use this day especially, to say I still love you. Like it makes up for the rest of the year when you couldn't say those three words. Don't get me wrong I will buy a card for Valentines, but to me it isn't unlike any other day. Why are holidays, birthdays, mothers...

Some Absinthe Recipes…..

As you know I love Absinthe, so I thought some recipes were in order.  I also threw in one for cooking that I will be trying this weekend.  It looks and sounds awesome.  I will have to get some relatives to send me another bottle, or two.  These come from the good people at Hapsburg. Absinthe Recipe - Punch© Mixed by Simon Sheena of Speciality Drinks. 20ml Hapsburge Absinthe for Cocktails. 20ml Rye Whiskey. 20ml Velvet Falernum. 100ml Pink Grapefruit Juice. Grated Nutmeg and Orange Peel shavings to garnish. Shake with ice and strain into a tall glass full of cubed ice...

What to do when a girl is being hit on? Episode 1: The Drink Guy TV

Welcome to Episode 1 of The Drink Guy TV! We are very excited at The Drink Guy to bring you this episode, where Glenn The Drink Guy and Lynn the Life Coach discuss a situation that arose the evening before at the bar. The situation occurred when a woman was sitting alone at the bar, waiting for a friend who was very late. While she was waiting a man repeatedly attempted to engage her in conversation, asked her for her phone number, and basically refused to take "No" for an answer. The question we are discussing is, at what point is it the responsibility of the establishment to step in,...

Local Beer Brewing Club: Are you an SOB?

Championship Beer Brewing: I am part of a local beer brewing club, although I have to admit I have never attended an event but I probably should. Maybe I can do a video of the next event. Anyway, they just ran a contest and I thought I would post the result here just for the other readers. This is from George Leet who is a beer brewing guru. Maybe I'll do an video interview of his process if he doesn't mind sometime for this website. Anyway enjoy: The Amsterdam Nut Brown contest winners have been announced. Roger Beal, Wayne Reeves, and Amsterdam Brewmaster Jamie Mistry judged...

In Honour of the Olympics…

Proud to be a Canadian!  So, in honour of the opening ceremonies of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, some fun facts (although I admit I have not checked them, just laughed at them) about Canada 1.  Baseball is Canadian - First game June 4, 1838 -    Ingersoll, ON 2.  Hockey is Canadian  3.  Lacrosse is Canadian  4.  Basketball is Canadian  5.  The size of our footballs fields, one less down, and bigger balls  6.  Invented Smarties, Crispy Crunch and Coffee Crisp  7.  Apple pie is Canadian  8.  Mr. Dress up beats Mr. Rogers  9. Dear Fed Up…

Dear Drink Guy: You must see plenty of this. How do you suggest I deal with one of “those” friends, the one who just can’t control their drinking or their behavior when they drink? I’m tired of dealing with their drunken ass, & they refuse to listen to anyone about it. Fed Up (but torn by friendship) Lynn's Two Cents... I realize that this question has been directed to our resident drink guy Glenn, who will most certainly have seen a lot of this over the years and most assuredly have some great advice for "Fed Up"...however; I would feel remiss if I did not add my...

Feel The Pain!!!!

Well I'm certainly not talking about working out.  I've been under the weather the last few days and it's my own fault.  When you drink three out of four nights something is bound to give.  There certainly are other factors involved, and no I don't mean the hard stuff.  I just can't remember her name so it's best not to bring her up.  Alcohol does weaken the immune system and cause memory loss. Wow, that brings me back to another name forgotten, or never knew.  I'm not sure.  We only knew her for four days, she drove us home all those nights and drank till the wee hours of the...

Friends…

There is nothing better than having an easy night, making money, the odd drink bought for you and friends coming in to keep you company. I serve the drinks, we watch sports and talk about everything that comes up.  Being the day after Superbowl, not a lot of souls will have the energy to go out.  Remember, mass quantities of beer were consumed yesterday, along with huge servings of greasy but very tasty snacks.  However, there is something to be said for 'regulars'. Tonight we praised the Saints and Drew Brees.  Fantastic game all round by both teams.  We watched hockey and poker,...

Dear Too Many…

Thanks to Glenn for bringing questions from the bar…apparently he needs a laptop set up there so people can post directly onto “Don’t Cry in Your Beer”! Regardless of where, the question has been posed, so here it is… How Many is Too Many by Glenn on February 8, 2010 Now here is a question for our Life Coach. Since she is woman of superior intelligence, and great looks, I want to know the answer. This came to my attention this week from a young lady I work with. It all comes back as I have been asked the same question, and it’s definitely a curious one. This woman was out on...

How Many is Too Many?

Now here is a question for our Life Coach. Since she is woman of superior intelligence, and great looks, I want to know the answer. This came to my attention this week from a young lady I work with. It all comes back as I have been asked the same question, and it's definitely a curious one. This woman was out on a first date, doesn't always have to be the first, but somewhere in the beginning. I know we're all curious in the start of a new relationship. But some questions seem a little much, don't you think? I've broken it down into a few secondary questions. So here it is: How many woman...

Superbowl!!!!!!!!!!

Sunday, the holiest of days. But unlike most Sunday's, this one trumps all. Superbowl Sunday. Notwithstanding all the other big sporting events, this one captures our attention the best. The lead up, commercials, commentating, halftime show and of course the game itself. This one time, winner take all game, showcases the "Bar Industry". Hot women, beer and sports. The perfect day for "most" men and "some" women. In all my years of doing this, nothing gets the crowd going like this game. If I was to guess, I would think this day alone outsells all the rest in single day sales, or...

Dear Right Answer…

From our "Don't Cry in Your Beer" advice segment... Dear Right Answer... From "Is the Right Answer Wrong?" February 5, 2010 at 2:27 pm Is the right answer wrong? "Is it possible to find yourself in a situation where, doing the right thing for someone else is doing the wrong thing for yourself…does the right thing then become the wrong thing? I find myself having been asked to testify against someone who caused me grievous wrongs many years ago, on behalf of children who are now in a position to be harmed by this person. Drudging up my past, facing this person after over a decade,...

One of Those Days

Doesn't it stand too reason that after a nice relaxing day off my next shift back was a day in HELL!! We all know what this is like; not enough staff, busier than normal, running out of food and another "person" hooking Rickards White up to a Coors Lite keg. Not sure how it tasted, but it couldn't have been good. We have special, or rather, choice sayings for times like this. Some a little more extreme, all depending on how bad the night went. And some I won't get into but you will get the drift.  Getting "hooped" is a very mild way of saying we were busy but nothing we can't handle....

Ever wondered if you are a bit over the edge??

It happens all the time.  It may even happen to you.  By some sort of freaky chance of the universe or some crap like that, you suddenly get a whiff of your favorite beer.  You are at work and all you want to do is go home, go to your fridge and pour a tall pilsner glass of lovely liquid gold with a creamy white head. I am wondering if that makes you somewhat of a lunatic.  Maybe a fanatic.  Some sort of tic anyway.  This happens to me.  Not only with beer, but with some sweet bourbon or a nice wine. But what do you do when you are at work and you feel that way.  Maybe I am the...

Some Much Needed Rest

Wow, an unexpected day off. My friend, Scotty the Bartender, needed some extra spending money for his trip to Vegas. The ultimate road trip, watching the Superbowl in Vegas. What could be better? I had no problem with this. You scratch my back I'll scratch yours. How can you not spend money in Vegas? I hear the food is cheap, but the gambling might cost you. Actually, I think I should ask Rob, "The Brew Master". He was recently there drinking "Newkie Brown" till four in the morning. Hmmm....lol. Just kidding Rob. I honestly thought I would have more to say. A day off has left my mind...

Dear Frustrated…

Our first question for "Don't Cry In Your Beer" !! From Frustrated February 2, 2010 at 3:27 am "On a lighter side. If women are so good at multi-tasking, why can’t they have sex and a headache at the same time?" Lynn’s Two Cents… Dear Frustrated… Well, an interesting and fun first question for “Don’t Cry in Your Beer”...thanks for asking. And although the question is obviously in fun, I still of course have an answer for you…which I’m sure will totally amuse our Drink Guy Glenn! So first, despite the fact that there are many scientific studies that do seem to...

The Magical Liquid

Now being a bartender has allowed me the opportunity to take excessive amounts of time off to do some much needed traveling. Simply ask and you shall receive, management can always find someone to cover shifts. That's the beauty of the industry, plenty of bodies to fill in. Just make sure you bring something back as a thank you for not giving your shifts away permanently. The Caribbean is definitely my favorite place with it's "overproof" rum, this stuff is great in any cocktail or alone on the rocks. And, since being in the nite life we like to spend our vacations out in the sun on...

Sunday Bloody Sunday

Ahh Sunday, the day for resting. A day to sit back relax, and reflect on the madness that transpired this last week at the bar. Sunday's are generally the slowest of days in the "service" industry. I use the term "service" as an attempt to be politically correct. However, we all know what I am, and that is and always will be a bartender. To lump bartenders, waitresses and waiters into one catagory just seems wrong. Now where was I. That's right, Sunday's. Being a slower day gives us a little more time to converse with the masses that come out to enjoy some solitude. Actually it's usually...

The Drink Guy

What say we start this off right by doing what we've all done to get past a line up, not pay a cover charge or were a little under-age; and that's sneak in the back door. My editor, the lovely Lynn, who also happens to be our sites advice columnist and life coach will definitely have something to say about this! However, as  “mixologists”; we bartenders have been known to bend the rules a little, and I ain't about to stop now. I can hear her now, and believe me I've been called a few choice names in the past, and picked up a few nicknames along the way. I will explain at a...

At the Bar at Affiliate Summit

Recently I attended an conference in Las Vegas, yah I know conference in Las Vegas is an oxymoron, but I had a great time. So you are asking what this has to do with the drink guy concept. The point is I spent an evening with a successful internet marketer that turned out to be a person who likes beer. I like beer. So we had fun. If you are interested in her review of the affiliate summit conference in Las Vegas you can read it here. I told her I was a beer connoisseur and alas I was pounding back Miller Genuine Draft.  She called me on it.  So I switched to Newcastle Brown Ale, or as my...
