Tequila and Margaritaville…..

Before we get to some recipes, lets discuss the margarita.  This drink consists mainly of tequila, any orange flavor liqueur, such as triple sec, Cointreau or Grand Marnier, the juice of one lime or sweet and sour lime bar mix, ice and salt.  This is the basic margarita, remove anything and you might as well call it something else. Like the martini, there have become endless variations to the margarita.  Such as adding new flavors like strawberry, raspberry, mango or peach.  On the rocks or crushed ice, a slushy, using a blender.  Substituting salt for a sugar rim, for all you wimps,...

Travel the World with the Bartender…

As stated earlier, being a bartender has allowed me to travel the world and drink martini's on countless beaches .  I think it appropriate to share one of those experiences with everyone. Most recently my travels took me to Southeast Asia, a beautiful place called Phaic Tan . Hot, humid and covered in lush vegetation it's little wonder that Phaic Tan is often described as being 'the armpit of Southeast Asia'. Regular flights land at Phlat Chat airport or, if winds are strong, in a rice paddy within several kilometers of it.  With its crowed, chaotic streets and heavy traffic the best...

St Patricks Day, Cheers to ALL Green Drinks

Since this is about being GREEN, here are some green drinks for the ladies, and some men.  Since not everyone likes green beer, some drinks with a little more flavor have been added to please everyone's pallet.  Definitely some party favorites, especially the Jell-o.   Jamaican Green Sunrise 1 oz white rum orange juice 1/2 oz blue curacao liqueur 1/2 oz pineapple vodka Start with the ice cubes. Pour rum and orange juice into cocktail glass. Carefully add blue curacao, making sure it falls to the bottom. Layer pineapple vodka on top. Irish Jell-o...

St Patrick’s Day…Cheers to Green Beers!

St Patrick's Day in North America brings to mind parades, shamrocks, and for many of us a rowdy night at the pub drinking green beer. However, you may be surprised to learn that in Ireland St Patrick's Day is a religious holiday...as the Patron Saint of Ireland,  St Patrick is credited for bringing Christianity into Ireland...and he wasn't even Irish! So how best to enjoy the ultimate "Green" holiday? It's all about throwing yourself into the celebration, embracing the fun, and dragging your friends with you! Whether you go out, or stay in, there are "must do's" to truly participate in...

The Bartender and The Life Coach are back! Episode 7:TDG TV

The Bartender and the Life Coach are back, this time dealing with the question of how to handle the changing dynamics of a long term friendship. Once again with our special guest Amber, we now delve into a personal situation she is dealing with...a friendship relationship that has changed in a way that Amber is not sure how to deal with. Our entire lives revolve around the relationships that we create with the people around us, from family and friendships to casual acquaintances and vocational (especially as a bartender and a life coach!) connections. How we "manage" these relationships...

Confused about my friend…Life Coach please help!

As the Life Coach, I am noticing a pattern...the consensus from our Drink Guy team is that, after watching Episode 7 of  TDG TV, an expanded version of my thoughts for Amber would be appreciated. A friendship relationship question is something we have all dealt with at some point, and it deserves some attention. It is difficult, between the length of the episode and sharing the stage with the Bartender, to really give a thorough answer...and you are probably figuring out that I like to be thorough! The question posed to us was simple...in a long term friendship relationship, when the...

Drinking Games…..

Since our Facebook Fan Page has a Drinking Game listed for the Oscars, I figured I better add a few to peak everyone's interest.  There are literally thousands of drinking games to be played, but these three will help you get drunk, get to know your friends or possibly get you a free drink from the bartender.  You also won't need any cards, which usually get wet or stuck together, or bottles or any other object that could be hurled at the loser/winner (however you choose to look at it). Sorry, you will need some quarters for one game. Let's start with Fuzzy Duck. I think a few know this...

Cyberstalking…Did I Cross that Line?

Dear Drink Guy... Cyberstalking So I was at my significant other's place the other day, and needed to use the computer. My SO told me to go ahead, so I did. When I sat down, I realized that they had a "social" site open that they had a subscription to, a site designed for singles. I knew I should just close it up, but instead I started to poke around. I found "chats" with other people that had started before we were dating, but had continued after we started seeing each other. (A couple months now) I was not happy, but also realized that I should not have been poking around. Now I don't...

Cyberstalking, a question for The Bartender and The Life Coach. Episode 6:TDG TV

The bartender and the life coach deal with the question of cyberstalking! This question arrived via email, and brings up many issues, both moral, ethical and legal...we do believe it warrants a follow up post with a more in depth answer, but the bartender and the life coach kick off the conversation in Episode 6 of  TDG TV. Cyberstalking is certainly a concept that goes hand in hand with technology, and a concept that has become quite a concern. There are many levels to consider, from the simplicity of a significant other accidently finding your email open and reading a message or two,...

Some Cocktails for the Oscar’s….

Now since the Oscar's can be a theme party, choice of drinks will vary according to each theme.  Since I will assume a Black Tie Affair, we will go with some martini's. Dirty Martini 2 oz Gin ¼ oz Dry Vermouth 1/8 oz olive brine 3 green olives (add or remove olives to your taste) small wedge of lemon (optional) Directions Into a cocktail shaker, pour the Gin, Dry Vermouth and olive brine. Add ice. Shake well. Rub the rim of the martini glass with the wedge of lemon. Strain and pour contents of cocktail shaker into a martini glass. Drop the olives into the martini...

The Bartender and The Life Coach, The Olympics and Hockey! Episode 5:TDG TV

The 2010 Winter Olympic Games wrapped up last night in Vancouver amidst much pomp and circumstance. The excitement and enthusiasm was high, but these Olympic games were not without their controversy. A question was posed to our Bartender and to our Life Coach via our Facebook Fan Page, and a request for a "signature Glenn cocktail" to mark the occasion...thus Episode 5 was born! The host country of Canada did "own the podium" in regards to record breaking Olympic Gold medal achievement, and so the signature cocktail Twenty Ten Gold was born. Our guest on the episode, Amber, truly...

Oh Canada…. Gold Baby….

Just wanted to congratulate the Canadian men's hockey team for their GOLD MEDAL performance this afternoon against our arch rivals from the U.S.  This had to be one of the best hockey games I have ever seen.  Although I was working a full bar at the time, and catching the game was tricky, I did manage to see the tying goal with mere seconds remaining.  But the best was watching, the guy everyone said needed to produce, Sid the Kid scoring the winning goal in overtime. I don't want to take anything away from the Canadian women's hockey team, cause let's be real here, they were...

Twenty Ten Gold….

This is for Lynn, and can be seen on episode 5 1 oz Goldschlagger 1 oz Vodka 1 oz Sourpuss Raspberry Build on the rocks in a highball, add a little grenadine and top with cranberry juice. You can hardly notice the alcohol, but to me anything with Goldschlagger tastes like cinnamon hearts. Enjoy, The Drink Guy Team

Olympic Hockey Gold:Is the Controversy Warranted?

Dear Drink Guy: Olympic Hockey Team Hi guys...What is your take on the Women's Olympic Hockey team...Celebrating with a Bottle of Canadian beer and some cigars after the win? Some controversy according to media reports. I guess there was a 18 year old participating...Isn't this the same girl who scored the 2 goals to win? There was only media and workers in the building...I say let them have fun...I know I celebrated with a wine...minus the cigars..But if I make it to Cuba..you never know!! Lynn's Two Cents... Thanks for the questions (which was posted on our FaceBook Fan Page)...

The Glitz, The Glamour, The Academy Awards!

The stage is set, the nominations are announced, and the outfits are ready...the countdown to the 82nd Academy Awards is on. The question is, what will you be doing to enjoy the event? Now we know, not everyone loves the Oscars, but it's a great excuse to throw a party, entertain your friends and have some fun! The fun thing about the Oscars is that the possibilities are limitless for throwing a theme party that will be remembered for decades to come! Choosing a theme that represents a decade, a category, a particular film, or just the celebration of the Academy Awards in general, allows...

The Bartender and The Life Coach…a New Question!! Episode 4:TDG TV

Moving on! Our Bartender Glenn serves up a nice glass of  white wine, a 20 Bees Unoaked Chardonnay,  to our Life Coach Lynn while discussing the next question from our "Don't Cry in Your Beer"  forum. The question posed to our bartender revolves around the issue of disclosure in the early stages of courtship...not dissimilar to an earlier question posted on "Don't Cry in Your Beer" titled "How Many is Too Many". This question deals more with the specifics of what level of disclosure should take place, and when. Our Bartender and our Life Coach once more enjoy the light-hearted, tongue...

The Bartender and The Life Coach Wrap it up…Episode 3:TDG TV

Talk about beating a dead horse...oh my gosh!! Seriously, this is the LAST time we talk about this topic! Fortunately Glenn the Bartender mixes Lynn the Life Coach a spectacular Bailey's Chocolate Cherry drink during Episode 3 which makes it much more entertaining for everyone...believe me! Adding to the entertainment is the follow up with moderator Ken and the grand reveal of the Air Canada "smelly guy" story! Our Bartender and our Life Coach are still fielding questions and comments on this topic, much to their complete surprise! Interesting the different paths that people's opinions are...

Dear Lonely but full of Anxiety…

Dear Drink Guy: My girlfriend of several years and I have recently broken up. I have found myself having great difficulty getting back into the social "swing" of things. So much so that the last several events that I have been invited to I have either not gone at all, even though I was bored and lonely, or I go only to leave before even going inside. Not being able to cope with these social situations sucks. The anxiety that I am experiencing is scary, but I don't want to live my life like this. Please help! Lonely but full of Anxiety Lynn's Two Cents... Thank you for your...

The Bartender and The Life Coach are back…Episode 2: TDG TV

Well it seems that we are not quite over the question first raised in our video advice column,  Episode 1 of TDG TV...thus we revisit the topic in Episode 2! The controversy between the bartender and the life coach rages on! Since the topic seems to create strong emotions in MANY people lol, we decided that a moderator was prudent! (Make sure to watch TDG TV Episode 1 first!) Since Glenn the bartender is too busy watching Harry Potter on the TV to help or monitor me, the life coach, it seems I can write whatever I want.  Although Glenn is just a bartender he is usually right as...

You’re All Right….

I allowed the last comment on our first video as it only seemed fair.  Now who will be the bigger man, it's up to you guys.  The point everyone seems to be missing is that there is no right or wrong.  You can be a gentleman all you want, the fact is some women don't need or want  our help.  In today's society more women will stand up for themselves.  Great I say. Most women I have dated, generally want me to walk away from a confrontation.  Yet as someone who is interfering, or sorry, engaging another for the sake of protecting a woman's honor, pride or rights, whatever you want to...

Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey Neat…..

Kentucky Bourbon Now I didn't plan on talking about alcohol tonight, especially not whiskey, but since the restaurant has been slow the last couple days, I really have no good stories to tell. I know Lynn answered an email yesterday about Gin Rickey and seemed to enjoy every minute. Please tell me we haven't create a monster, but hey, if we can get her to try other drinks all the better.  No more wine for you.  Just kidding, I love wine. Now generally I'm a Canadian Rye Whiskey drinker, and proud of it. I have tried others, the likes of, Scotch, Irish and Tennessee. However, I always...

Whiskey Drinks…oh so good…

Now some here have been made with Canadian, such as the Whiskey Sour or Manhattan.  I'm sure you can substitute but let's try with Bourbon.  I've also listed a few for the Honey Reserve from Evan Williams. The Stinger ½ oz. Honey Reserve ½ oz. Evan Williams Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey ½ oz. Energy Drink Splash of Grenadine Shake over ice and strain into shot glass Honey Splash 2 oz. Honey Reserve 3 oz. Cranberry Juice 1 oz. Lemon Lime Soda Shake and pour over ice Bourbon & Cream Martini 1 oz. Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage Bourbon 1 oz. coffee...

Gin Rickey

Well here we are in what I promise you will be a rare post...Lynn posting about drinks, drink recipes, and drink trivia. I am not confused about who on the drink guy team are the experts in these areas, and it is not me! I do however find myself in a strange place, so thus, this post! A few minutes ago a question was posed to the drink guy Glenn on our FaceBook fan page of "The Drink Guy". The question was simple...asking about the recipe for a Gin Rickey. Dale, (who is a friend so I'm hoping he does not mind me using his real name lol!) hails from the beautiful state of Kentucky. In...

Wow, WTF….

I'm stunned at the responses we received here and on facebook and twitter.  I would like to thank you all for your input, it was a delight to read all of them.  This first episode of  TDG TV was a hit and certainly calls for a follow up episode.  This seems to be an unresolved issue here at TDG, and has caused a very heated debate between The Drink Guy and The Life Coach, none of it caught on film.  I would like to take this time to invite all who commented to join us for round two of  What Should the Bartender Do. We will figure out a place and date, as I might need some help on...

Valentines Day….

So, I just want to know what everyone thinks is the perfect day for Valentines. I usually work, since it is one of the busiest days of the year in the restaurant/bar industry. I will say I never really understood why. It's like every cheap, lame or unromantic person in the world uses this day to make up for lost time. Or they use this day especially, to say I still love you. Like it makes up for the rest of the year when you couldn't say those three words. Don't get me wrong I will buy a card for Valentines, but to me it isn't unlike any other day. Why are holidays, birthdays, mothers...

Some Absinthe Recipes…..

As you know I love Absinthe, so I thought some recipes were in order.  I also threw in one for cooking that I will be trying this weekend.  It looks and sounds awesome.  I will have to get some relatives to send me another bottle, or two.  These come from the good people at Hapsburg. Absinthe Recipe - Punch© Mixed by Simon Sheena of Speciality Drinks. 20ml Hapsburge Absinthe for Cocktails. 20ml Rye Whiskey. 20ml Velvet Falernum. 100ml Pink Grapefruit Juice. Grated Nutmeg and Orange Peel shavings to garnish. Shake with ice and strain into a tall glass full of cubed ice...

What to do when a girl is being hit on? Episode 1: The Drink Guy TV

Welcome to Episode 1 of The Drink Guy TV! We are very excited at The Drink Guy to bring you this episode, where Glenn The Drink Guy and Lynn the Life Coach discuss a situation that arose the evening before at the bar. The situation occurred when a woman was sitting alone at the bar, waiting for a friend who was very late. While she was waiting a man repeatedly attempted to engage her in conversation, asked her for her phone number, and basically refused to take "No" for an answer. The question we are discussing is, at what point is it the responsibility of the establishment to step in,...

Local Beer Brewing Club: Are you an SOB?

Championship Beer Brewing: I am part of a local beer brewing club, although I have to admit I have never attended an event but I probably should. Maybe I can do a video of the next event. Anyway, they just ran a contest and I thought I would post the result here just for the other readers. This is from George Leet who is a beer brewing guru. Maybe I'll do an video interview of his process if he doesn't mind sometime for this website. Anyway enjoy: The Amsterdam Nut Brown contest winners have been announced. Roger Beal, Wayne Reeves, and Amsterdam Brewmaster Jamie Mistry judged...

In Honour of the Olympics…

Proud to be a Canadian!  So, in honour of the opening ceremonies of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, some fun facts (although I admit I have not checked them, just laughed at them) about Canada 1.  Baseball is Canadian - First game June 4, 1838 -    Ingersoll, ON 2.  Hockey is Canadian  3.  Lacrosse is Canadian  4.  Basketball is Canadian  5.  The size of our footballs fields, one less down, and bigger balls  6.  Invented Smarties, Crispy Crunch and Coffee Crisp  7.  Apple pie is Canadian  8.  Mr. Dress up beats Mr. Rogers  9. Tim Hortons...

Dear Fed Up…

Dear Drink Guy: You must see plenty of this. How do you suggest I deal with one of “those” friends, the one who just can’t control their drinking or their behavior when they drink? I’m tired of dealing with their drunken ass, & they refuse to listen to anyone about it. Fed Up (but torn by friendship) Lynn's Two Cents... I realize that this question has been directed to our resident drink guy Glenn, who will most certainly have seen a lot of this over the years and most assuredly have some great advice for "Fed Up"...however; I would feel remiss if I did not add my...

Feel The Pain!!!!

Well I'm certainly not talking about working out.  I've been under the weather the last few days and it's my own fault.  When you drink three out of four nights something is bound to give.  There certainly are other factors involved, and no I don't mean the hard stuff.  I just can't remember her name so it's best not to bring her up.  Alcohol does weaken the immune system and cause memory loss. Wow, that brings me back to another name forgotten, or never knew.  I'm not sure.  We only knew her for four days, she drove us home all those nights and drank till the wee hours of the...

These drinks will please and impress. Some of them come from the people at "That's the Spirit". 1. Friends…

There is nothing better than having an easy night, making money, the odd drink bought for you and friends coming in to keep you company. I serve the drinks, we watch sports and talk about everything that comes up.  Being the day after Superbowl, not a lot of souls will have the energy to go out.  Remember, mass quantities of beer were consumed yesterday, along with huge servings of greasy but very tasty snacks.  However, there is something to be said for 'regulars'. Tonight we praised the Saints and Drew Brees.  Fantastic game all round by both teams.  We watched hockey and poker,...

Dear Too Many…

Thanks to Glenn for bringing questions from the bar…apparently he needs a laptop set up there so people can post directly onto “Don’t Cry in Your Beer”! Regardless of where, the question has been posed, so here it is… How Many is Too Many by Glenn on February 8, 2010 Now here is a question for our Life Coach. Since she is woman of superior intelligence, and great looks, I want to know the answer. This came to my attention this week from a young lady I work with. It all comes back as I have been asked the same question, and it’s definitely a curious one. This woman was out on...

How Many is Too Many?

Now here is a question for our Life Coach. Since she is woman of superior intelligence, and great looks, I want to know the answer. This came to my attention this week from a young lady I work with. It all comes back as I have been asked the same question, and it's definitely a curious one. This woman was out on a first date, doesn't always have to be the first, but somewhere in the beginning. I know we're all curious in the start of a new relationship. But some questions seem a little much, don't you think? I've broken it down into a few secondary questions. So here it is: How many woman...
