Directions
Spiced Scandinavian winter beverage with port wine, dark rum and spices.
Glögg is a soul-warming, spiced beverage crafted to melt away the chill of a frosty evening. Infused with an aromatic blend of traditional Scandinavian spices and enriched with the deep flavours of port wine and dark rum, this drink promises a cozy winter indulgence. Serve it hot in a tall, heat-resistant glass to fully enjoy the symphony of flavours with every sip.
1. In a large pot, combine the vanilla seeds, pod, sugars, and spices along with the licorice root, ginger, and apple juice. Stir to mix thoroughly.
2. Heat the mixture gently, allowing the sugar to dissolve and continue to a gentle boil. Let it cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
3. Remove the pot from the heat and mix in the snaps (if using), rum, and port wine.
4. Pour the spiced mixture into sterilized jars or bottles, distributing the citrus slices evenly among them. Seal the containers and let the flavors meld in a cool place for 1–3 weeks, giving it a shake now and then.
5. Once cured, strain the mixture through a fine mesh or cloth and transfer it into clean bottles.
