Tequila and Margaritaville…..

Before we get to some recipes, lets discuss the margarita.  This drink consists mainly of tequila, any orange flavor liqueur, such as triple sec, Cointreau or Grand Marnier, the juice of one lime or sweet and sour lime bar mix, ice and salt.  This is the basic margarita, remove anything and you might as well call it something else.

Like the martini, there have become endless variations to the margarita.  Such as adding new flavors like strawberry, raspberry, mango or peach.  On the rocks or crushed ice, a slushy, using a blender.  Substituting salt for a sugar rim, for all you wimps, which is not a margarita.  Adding different flavored liqueurs can take it to a new level, just don’t remove anything.

So here are just a few recipes for the Mayor.

By Special Request…A Classic Margarita

  • 1 1/2 oz  tequila
  • 3/4 oz orange flavor liqueur
  • Juice of 1/2 lime, freshly squeezed or bar mix
  • Salt on the rim

Place ingredients in a blender or shaker depending on desired effect. Pour into rimmed glass.

The Blue Margarita

  • 1 1/2 oz tequila
  • 1/2 oz orange flavor liqueur
  • 1/2 oz blue curacao liqueur
  • Juice of 1/2 lime, freshly squeezed or bar mix
  • 1 tsp fine sugar
  • Salt rim

Place ingredients in blender or shaker, I personally like to float the blue on top after the rest has been mixed.  Pour into rimmed glass.

Green Iguana

  • 1 1/2 oz tequila
  • 3/4 oz melon liqueur
  • Juice of 1/2 lime, freshly squeezed or bar mix
  • Salt rim

Blend or shake ingredients and pour into rimmed glass.

To rim the glass, cut limes into wedges, cut slits into wedges.  Rim the glass with the wedge and dip into salt or sugar for the wimps.  Garnish the glass with the lime or any other fruit that might enhance the look of the drink, depending on the flavor chosen.

Let me know how they turned out.  Enjoy the recipes.
