Olympic Hockey Team
Hi guys…What is your take on the Women’s Olympic Hockey team…Celebrating with a Bottle of Canadian beer and some cigars after the win? Some controversy according to media reports. I guess there was a 18 year old participating…Isn’t this the same girl who scored the 2 goals to win? There was only media and workers in the building…I say let them have fun…I know I celebrated with a wine…minus the cigars..But if I make it to Cuba..you never know!!
Lynn’s Two Cents…
Thanks for the questions (which was posted on our FaceBook Fan Page) …Olympic hockey, especially women’s hockey, is certainly a hot topic today! I myself am a bit torn on my thoughts. I do agree with you that celebrating such a momentous occasion as an Olympic Gold Medal win is exactly what they deserved to be doing, and a shared bottle of champagne amongst the team seems the perfect start to that celebration. (Certainly my choice over beer!) I’m sure we can all think of a time in our lives where we experienced a moment of victory, and the adrenalin rush that accompanies it. I can totally understand how that “high” supersedes all other thoughts and feelings. I guess my only thought to the flip side is that, yes, they were excited, and yes, they deserved to celebrate, but was celebrating on the ice with cans of beer and cigars the image that we would like winning Olympic athletes to portray to the world, and obviously especially to the young people who will hear about it, and see pictures…likely not. I think ultimately in the “heat of the moment” they made a poor decision to continue their celebrating in the manner they did, it is unfortunate that the media got a hold of it, but I don’t personally think it is the big controversy that the media is making it out to be. I certainly hope the International Olympic Committee agrees. I know Glenn has a busy night at the bar tonight, keeping the fans happy through both Men’s Olympic hockey semi-final games, and I am sure that he will have many conversations about this hot topic…I look forward to…
